Note
"The East German uprising of 1953 (German: Volksaufstand vom 17. Juni 1953 ) began with a strike action by East Berlin construction workers on 16 June, and turned into a widespread uprising against the government of the German Democratic Republic the next day. It involved more than one million people in about 700 localities.

The uprising in East Berlin was suppressed by tanks of the Soviet forces, and the Kasernierte Volkspolizei. In spite of the intervention of Soviet troops, the wave of strikes and protests were not easily brought under control. There were demonstrations in more than 500 towns and villages after 17 June." - (en.wikipedia.org 02.09.2020)
