"Okayama (岡山市, Okayama-shi, Japanese: [okaꜜjama]) is the capital city of Okayama Prefecture in the Chūgoku region of Japan. The city was founded on June 1, 1889.

As of February 2017[update], the city has an estimated population of 720,841 and a population density of 910 persons per km². The total area is 789.88 square kilometres (304.97 square miles).
