He was a colleague of Jean-Baptiste Lamarck and expanded and defended Lamarck´s evolutionary theories. Geoffroy´s scientific views had a transcendental flavor (unlike Lamarck´s materialistic views) and were similar to those of German morphologists like Lorenz Oken.
