"Adelaide exhibits at the Bremen exhibition
At present there is an Exhibition on an extensive scale held at Bremen, Germany, "The North-West German Trade and Industrial Exhibition." It was opened on June 1, and will be closed on September 30. Our fellow-colonist Mr. J.D. Suhling, has collected for the commerial part of the Exhibition produce, ores, animals, birds, native weapons, curios, &c., &c., so that the Australian Colonies are well represented, and by this means advertised. We give an extract from the Bremer Nachrichten dealing with the establishment of the Australian Court: - "In the building set apart for the commercial exhibits, the Australian Colonies have found a place for the large and beautiful collection of produce and other things. ... The walls are decorated with all kinds of skins from Australian animals, large assortment of rugs, fur bags, caps, and mats, native rush mats and baskets, and a splendid collection of native weapons, also photographs of natives. ... Mr. Suhling exhibits also the following goods, lately collected by him in New Zealand: - Flax from Messrs. Middlemiss & Vercoe, and from Mr. David Thompson; valuable dresses, rugs, &c., made by the Maoris, of flax; ornaments and weapons made of green stone; collection of ferns, many articles made of New Zealand woods, Kauri gum, and ornaments; also oil paintings and photographs of New Zealand scenery." - Adelaide Observer 16.08.1890, S. 6 (https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/159551106?browse=ndp%3Abrowse%2Ftitle%2FA%2Ftitle%2F821%2F1890%2F08%2F16%2Fpage%2F18934797%2Farticle%2F159551106, 02.04.2024)
