Biography
Etcher and engraver. Signs his work 'I Collins', and has often been called as a result 'John Collins' or 'James Collins'. Malcolm Jones has found an advertisement in 'The Daily Courant' of 4 May 1705, which settles the problem. It reads "James Collins Engraver, having formerly drawn and engraved the Cathedral Church of Canterbury... is now about that of Lincoln... on a large sheet of Imperial Paper", and states that both may be had from "the Author at Linstead in Kent".
There might be another I.Collins, as a John Collins was apprenticed to William Faithorne in 1661." - Entity Encoding
